The Jack Holden rink of the Comox Valley Curling Club, representing Zone 4 of the Pacific Coast Masters Curling Association, was victorious in claiming the coveted mixed event trophies at the PCMCA/BCIMCA Combined Provincial Curling Championship last weekend.

The rink, skipped by spare, Richard Lewis; third, Kim Jonsson; second, Daryl Wright and lead, Sharon Walker battled teams from the Pacific Coast and the BC Interior for the titles.

The CVCC rink of Amber Dufour, Mary Holden, Mickey Colburn and Elaine Starchuk were going for a two-peat placed second in the women’s event.

The Combined Championship is a grand event complete with team photos, parade of teams on the ice, a “toast” to the piper, a welcoming from dignitaries, ceremonial first rock, a meet and greet, hospitality room, prize draws, 50/50 draw and topped off with a Gala Awards Banquet on the last evening.

The Victoria Curling Club hosted this competition March 19-23 where more than 140 competitors took part in men’s, women and mixed categories.

This is a great event for 60+ curlers where it shows that age has no limits for the active senior. Next year, the event will be hosted mid-March in the interior of Penticton Summerland.
