Steam Donkey Racing could use a few more volunteers for the PACE Multisport Dodge City X, Cumberland’s first off-road triathlon, Sept. 9.

Volunteer roles include course marshals, set-up and take-down, first aid attendants and more.

Volunteers receive a free T-shirt custom designed by ROAM Media, access to food and volunteer-only draw prizes — plus a ton of warm fuzzies for being part of this inaugural event.

Proceeds from the triathlon will benefit the United Riders of Cumberland (UROC) and the Cumberland Community Forest Society.

The race features a 1.5-km swim in Comox Lake, a 23-km mountain bike course over some of Vancouver Island’s best singletrack and then a glute-busting, 9.5-km trail run that promises to separate the truly committed from the woefully unprepared. A roughly half distance “sprint” option is also available, as is a relay category for teams of two or three.

Registration closes Sept. 6.

Black Press is proud to support the event as official media sponsor. The race has also attracted other grassroots support from the community, including event sponsors like Trail Bicycles, Fit Chiropractic, Extreme Runners, Thomas Dargie (Investors Group) and ROAM Media.
