All good things must come to an end.

The Isfeld Ice senior boys basketball team’s 38-game non-playoff win streak ended in the final of the Alberni tournament this past weekend.

In the opening round Isfeld handled Reynolds of Victoria 64-39. With the score 20-19 midway through the second quarter the Ice held the Roadrunners to six points for the next 14 minutes, going on a 30-6 run to blow the game open. Brett Woods had 21 and Anthony Xylinas added 11.

In the tournament semifinal the Ice played Ballenas in a tough physical game, coming out on top 67-35. “Again with Ballenas up one (we) shut the Whalers down, going on a 33-6 run to coast to the victory,” said Isfeld coach Tom Elwood.

Woods again lead the Ice in scoring with 16 followed by Jordan Messana with 14  Xylinas with 12 and Logan Benninger rounded out the double digit scoring with 11.

In the final the Ice faced a quick, tough Guilford Park team. Failing to execute at both ends of the floor, Isfeld came up short 60-43. Benninger had 19 and Thaskani Mtawali added 12. Benninger and Woods were selected to the tournament all-tar team.
