Junior golfers keeping busy

Matthew Irvine, Logan Yanick and Abigail Rigsby take on high-calibre competition

Comox Valley junior golfers are enjoying a busy season.

On May 9-11, Matthew Irvine and Logan Yanick of Courtenay were in Victoria competing at the CN Future Links Pacific Championship at Bear Mountain Resort.

Logan finished in a three-way tie for 35th with a 22-over 235 (73-84-78) while Irvine finished in a two-way tie for 53rd at 30-over 243 (82-86-75).

The top six competitors in the junior boys division of each CN Future Links Championship will earn exemptions into the 2014 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, July 28 to Aug. 1, at Legends on the Niagara in Niagara Falls, Ont.

Meanwhile, Abigail Rigsby of Courtenay finished in a five-way tie for 25th place in a high-calibre field at the Canadian Women's Tour B.C. stop at Morningstar Golf Club in Parksville.

Competing as one of 26 amateurs at the event, Rigsby shot two steady rounds of 77 to finish at 10-over 154. The tourney was held May 13-14.
