The Comox Valley Road Runners 5K Run Clinic helps beginners build the knowledge and confidence to complete a 5K race and experienced runners the skills to run faster than ever.

The Comox Valley Road Runners’ (CVRR) “Body Positive” 5K Run Clinic starts Jan. 14, which means would-be participants have only a few more days to register for this potentially life-changing clinic.

“It’s really three clinics in one,” explains clinic director Leslie Dargie. “It’s a walk clinic, giving walkers the skills to power through 5K and potentially turn that walk into a run; it’s a run clinic designed to give beginners the knowledge and confidence to safely complete a 5K distance; and it’s a race clinic, where experienced runners can improve their pace with hill training, pick-ups and fartleks.”

The clinic runs Saturday mornings from Jan. 14 through March 18 and is designed to give runners and aspiring runners everything they need to boost their confidence and surpass their expectations – whether it’s recording a personal best time or simply having the courage and support to complete their first 5K run.

In addition to weekly training runs, participants will learn about a different aspect of running each week – from injury prevention, cross training and nutrition to stretching, motivation and proper footwear.

The clinic culminates on March 18 with the CVRR 5K Fun Run, which Dargie says is always hugely rewarding event.

“It’s always incredible to see the changes in our participants, some of whom had never run even a single kilometre before signing up,” she says. “They all support each other and they cross that finish line with huge smiles, confidence and a sense of accomplishment that’s through the roof.”

The cost of the 5K Run Clinic is just $50 for all 10 sessions, which includes a one-of-a-kind technical T-shirt. Participants can register in person at Extreme Runners (436 Fifth Street) or at the Lewis Centre, or they can contact Leslie Dargie at 250-897-1213 for information.

Registration is available on the first day of the clinic for a cost of $55. For more information, visit www.cvrr.ca/5km-running-clinic.
