Lawn bowling season opens Saturday

Courtenay Lawn Bowling Club is ready to start “rollin’ those bowls”!  Opening Day is April 30, and we will march around the green and raise the flag for another season around 1 p.m. Newcomers are welcome to come out and try the game.

Coaches are all ready to go for a mini-clinic May 3-5 at 6 p.m. and if that time is not convenient, the coaches will do what they can to accommodate your desire to learn the game with alternative times. The clubhouse number is 250-338-8222 with an answering machine to gather your pertinent information.

This last week of April will see lots of activity as the benches and awnings will be replaced around the green. Archie Harris and the greens crew have pronounced the green “playable” although, like all of us, the green would like a little more sunshine to bring it into truly fit condition.

The new rule books are in and will be available on April 30 for $5.50 each.

Our first event of the season, the May 21-22 Mixed Triples sponsored by Anderton Nurseries, has received a full complement of entries from home and the zone.

Our second event, Scotch Pairs sponsored by Brazen Sportswear on June 18-19, is also fully booked. We do have some really keen bowlers in the North Island.

Remember,  all you newcomers to the game or to the Valley, you are welcome to Opening Day and also the coaching clinic to learn the game.  It is truly a “Sport For Life” and all ages.
