Local runners part of historic 115th Boston Marathon

Every Boston Marathon is special, but the 115th Boston on Monday will be extra-special for the 10 Comox Valley participants.

That's because Kenyan Geoffry Mutai became the fastest marathoner ever in winning the 2011 Boston with a world record time of 2 hours, 3 minutes, and 2 seconds.

A total of 26,964 participants crowded the starting line for a race that will be in the record book for all time.

For the local contingent, 55-year-old Wayne Crowe of Comox finished in 3:08.30; 25th in his division and 2,653rd overall. Brad Crowe, 29, of Comox finished in 3:04.52 for 2,119th overall and 1,341st in his division.

Denny Keyes, age 50 of Courtenay, finished in 3:43.34, which was 11,472nd overall and 1,004th in his division. Roslyn Smith, 62, of Comox clocked 3:32.28 which was 8,315th overall and fifth in her division.

Cheryl Eldridge, 43, of Fanny Bay finished in 3:46.57 which was 12,481st overall and 699th in her division. Janet Green, 57, of Courtenay timed in at 3:53.12 which was 12,250th overall and 52nd in her division.

Robyn Dicesare, 46, of Courtenay finished in 4:00.11 which was 16,193rd overall and 792nd in her division. Karen Tobacca, 54, of Courtenay finished in 4:49.47 for 21,923rd overall and 761st in her division.

Korky Richardson, 46 of Courtenay, clocked a 4:28.59 which was 20,400th overall and 1,334th in her division. Karen Sibley, 51, of Campbell River clocked a 3:59.52, which was 16,106th overall and 280th in her division.
