Mark Isfeld Sr Boys in Courtenay have made history by winning the Sr Boys AA Island Championships.

They went through the local high school league undefeated. In the North Islands, they suffered their first loss against Brentwood 2-1 in the North Island Finals. This put them in the number two spot from the north which had them square off against Stelly’s (South 3) , Wellington (North 4) and Lambrick (South1).

The first game was against Stelly’s on Monday morning with the wind howling. It was a tricky game to get through with accurate passes nearly impossible with the hard turn and crazy win. Daxin Moldenhauer was able to get the team on the board and they held off for a 1-0 win.

The second game was on Monday afternoon and still with the windy conditions where again it was a battle against Wellington. The team were able to come out with a 2-0 victory. Parker Guile and Markus Ciastkowski were the goal scorers. Tuesday had us against Lambrick. They were feeling optimistic as the weather had cleared up and we could play the game. Winning or tying this game would ensure a birth to the provincials which was the team's goal from the start of the year.

The team were able to get up 1-0 with a nice through ball from Bryce Gailloux-Malina to Ciastkowski who finished the second half with another two goals securing a 3-0 win. The final came against SMU. The winner of this game would be crowned the champions.

The game started with SMU getting some early chances. In the first half; Alex Honeyball was fouled just outside the box which led to him coming out of the game with a broken collar bone. Ciastkowski was able to convert the free kick to get to go up 1-0 and keep the lead into half. SMU found some life when a redirect kick from half caught the goalie off of his line and into the net.

With about two minutes remaining in the game, there was some very nice play between players which led to Ciastkowski sliding home the game-winner. The team is now resting up and getting prepared for provincials that are taking place in Burnaby from Nov. 18-20.
