Mount Washington freestyle skiers hit podium at B.C. Series event

The first B.C. Series freestyle skiing competition of the season – one of two qualifying events for the Canadian Junior Nationals – was held Jan. 13-15 at Apex Mountain.

"This was a great opportunity to see some really talented youths ripping it up," an event spokesperson said. There were over 140 competitors ages eight and up competing from freestyle clubs at Mount Washington, Apex, Whistler/Blackcomb, Silver Star, Big White, Revelstoke, Vancouver, Kimberly and the BC Provincial Freestyle Team.

Mount Washington skiers posted a number of podium finishes. On the Friday in Super Youth-Big Air, Keaton Heisterman won silver in M6, Emma Benischek won gold in Slopestyle F3, Hannah Benischek won bronze in Slopestyle F4, Teal Harle earned silver in Slopestyle M3, and Todd Heard won silver in Slopestyle M4.

On the Saturday, Keaton Heisterman won bronze in Super Youth-Slopestyle M6, Emma Benischek won bronze in Moguls F3, Mei Pond got bronze in Moguls F4, and Dean Robin won bronze in Moguls M2.

On the Sunday, Keaton Heisterman won bronze in Super Youth-Moguls M6, Emma Benischek earned bronze in Big Air F3, Hannah Benischek took silver in Big Air F4, and Todd Heard garnered gold in Big Air M4.

The second event in the B.C. Series goes Feb. 3-5 at Silver Star. Also upcoming: NorAm Series Feb. 13-14 at Apex, BC Park & Pipes Series Feb. 17-19 at Whistler/Blackcomb, and BC Winter Games Feb. 24-26 at Silver Star.
