The 2012 Comox  Ladies North Island Golf Tournament was held Mother’s Day on a perfect day.  Nate, TJ, Ernie, John and Morgan had the course in perfect shape considering the late start of spring.

This event is sponsored by four women from Re/Max Ocean Pacific Realty – Marie McCooey, Jane Denham, Glenda Mosher and Lisa Jorgensen. Although there was no hole in one, the tournament is lucky to have two sponsors, The Visual Sound Store (50” plasma TV) and Canadian Western Bank ($5,000).

McCooey presented the low gross and net trophies. Andrea Kosa from the Glencoe Club in Calgary won low gross with 77. Jean McCrea of the Comox Golf Club won low net in a count-back with four others with a 71. Our best story this year was tournament committee chairperson Buchan Mahon’s cart going to the practice range all by itself.

The team prize was presented to Karen Todoruk, Karen Vanetta, Lorelei Banford and Carol Strachan.

Following  the golf game, Karen and her most efficient staff at Sprinkler’s served a delicious ham and scalloped potato dinner.

Numerous local businesses provided generous sponsorship through the Hole Sponsorship Program. The tournament relies on their continued support as much as they rely on our support. Hole sponsors this year were:

Shearlocks- Kim Jonsson:  Scorpios- Cheri Kahaimoe: Shar-Ons- Sharon Anderson; J.R. Thanks to Doug Petrie for his hard work with the horse race and scoring, and to Don Taylor for his assistance in the computer room.

Following the horse race, the ladies enjoyed meat platters from Quality Foods and Thrifty Foods. On Sunday Extra Foods supplied fruit for the ladies.  Water was supplied by Canadian Western Bank.

The tournament would not be successful without all the volunteers, from ball spotters to scorekeepers: Don Vanetta, Ian Leakey and Rick Siddall for the chipping contest, Edith Albrecht for the nuts and bolts, Bernice Sutherland, Lynda Hornstein, Yvonne Higgs, Leona Stefiuk, Vicky Edwards, Marg Kelly, Doris Ellis, Yvonne Baker, Erna Wiebe, Judy Moore and Margot Hope for their expertise at the registration table. Thanks to hole spotters Hank Verdenhalven, Gus Baudais, Peg Runquist, Audrey Haughn and Jim and Val Cook.

The tournament committee of chairperson Buchan Mahon, Sharon Crowe, Karen Vanetta, Sue Leakey, Grace Coulter, Kathy Branch, Marg Walker and Nancy Riva thank all the competitors for playing in this event and encourage all to support the sponsors.
