The Gladstone Brewery Vikings and defending champion Happy’s Source for Sports Pirates — the top two teams of the Comox Valley Commercial Hockey League regular season — met up in the championship final.

The three-game final needed every minute and then some. The teams split the first two games, setting up a winner-takes-all final.

As expected, the third game was a tight contest with both goalies, James Harvie (Pirates) and Evan Murray (Vikings), playing well.

The teams traded goals from Warren Fleenor of the Vikings and Dallas McDonald of the Pirates.

However, defence and stellar netminding shut down the two offences the rest of the way to end the game in a 1-1 tie.

Fittingly, this close series needed a sudden death overtime to crown a champion. In the overtime period, the Pirates’ Jackson Garrett was able to hit Carson Perreaux with a breakaway pass that Perreaux buried to send the Pirates to victory and their third title in the past three seasons.

The CVCHL would like to thank Mike Magee, Alex Bews, Kourtenay Eagen and the Glacier Gardens staff for their hard work this past season.
