Longtime friendships were renewed and much-needed funds were raised at the Comox Valley Women’s Fastball League’s 30th annual Charity Tournament.
The 20-team tourney took place June 15-17 at Lewis Park. Things kicked off with a Friday night reunion and games under the lights. The fastball continued Saturday and Sunday, with other fundraising events throughout the weekend including a casino, balloon draw, 50/50 draws and a “puppy race” by the beer garden. Another fun event was an alumni game.
Tourney organizers were still tallying the monies raised and expect to have a total early next week, when the recipients will also be announced. Over the years, the event has raised more than $200,000 to support local women and children.
In Sunday’s finals, Victoria Wild won the A Division by defeating Victoria S Vee Units 3-2. “Wow, what a great game to watch,” a tourney spokesperson said. “There was no score in the first seven innings.” Victoria Storm defeated Nanaimo Fubar 7-2 to win the B Division.
