How cool will it be two see two Comox Valley residents featured on the world stage?
Crashed Ice cool.
On Monday, May 21, CHEK 6 TV is scheduled to air an episode of 'Restless Josie' that features 19 Wing Comox firefighter Kyle Croxall winning the 2012 Red Bull Crashed Ice world championship in ice cross downhill racing.
Josie Boulding, who grew up in Campbell River and now lives in Courtenay, created the show last year after being struck with a need to travel and a fascination with the passion of athletes who risk their lives pursuing their sport.
"The 2012 'Restless Josie' TV series is well underway, and my first trip was in March to Quebec City to report on the Red Bull World Champion Crashed Ice Competition," Boulding said in a news release.
"This crazy sport has male and female athletes wearing full hockey gear and downhill ice skating at break-neck speed down a daredevil course. This year's course was constructed through the hilly streets of Quebec City," said Boulding, who witnessed Croxall win the championship in front of 100,000 spectators.
"It feels amazing," said Croxall after winning the title. How did he do it? By getting a second place in Quebec, Croxall finished the year with 3,000 points, just 40 ahead of Finland's Arttu Pihlainen. Croxall won an Austin Mini by securing the world title. Kyle's brother, Scott, crashed into a wall late in the race and still secured a third.
The 'Restless Josie Crashed Ice Special' will also cover some of the local attractions in Quebec City and take the viewer behind the scenes of the incredible world championship event.
"I've had the opportunity to have an exciting life where I travel to amazing places and meet great people," said Boulding, "but my job's especially cool when I can shine the spotlight on a local athlete."
The show is scheduled to air on CHEK at 6:30 p.m. on May 21. Boulding says TUFF TV will also be streaming the Crashed Ice special live on their website (www.tufftv.com) on Saturday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 27 at 5:30 p.m.
