Comox Valley Road Runners posted good times at the Island Series race in Cedar.

With some lead runners taking the weekend off and some saving their efforts for the big race next weekend, the Comox Valley Road Runners' team of 22 runners placed first as a club at the Cedar road race.

The third in the Island Series of eight races, with a 12 kilometre up-and-down distance, the Cedar course challenges the best of runners. CVRR pulled ahead of their arch rivals, the Prairie Inn Harriers of Saanich, to gain some ground on the much larger club’s stranglehold on first place in the series.

Leading the charge were two first-place finishes: Roger Plamondon (M55-59) and Ken Richardson (M70-74). Rounding out the medals were Wayne Crowe with his third silver in three races, and an increasingly competitive Sheila Van Gesbergen with a bronze.

A notable performance by Kevin Park (M30-34) earned him the Fastest Road Runner title for the weekend and 28th overall in a field of 382 competitors. Sam Knowles is letting them know he is back after a five-year hiatus, posting a very respectable 1:08.15 for a seventh place in his age category (M65-69).

The Road Runners are back in action next weekend at the classy Royal Roads/Hatley Castle 8K. More information and complete club results are available at www.cvrr.ca.
