They were taking it to the street big time at the 15th annual Comox Cup Road Hockey Tournament.

The June 17-19 event featured 21 teams from all over Vancouver Island competing in three divisions, with local entries dominating the medal presentations.

The tournament has traditionally been held in the parking lot of the Comox Community Centre, but this year several downtown Comox streets were closed off in order to create caged rinks along Comox Avenue.

"It was an incredible weekend," said Comox Rec recreational programmer Dawn Stevens.

The A division final had the Classics against the Little River Sales Grinders with the Sales Grinders coming out on top 5-3.

The B division final had the 97.3 The Eagles taking on Cedar Heat with the Eagles winning the title by a convincing 10-3 score.

The C division final pitted the Courtenay Knights against the Cariboo Brewers with the Knights coming out on top.

The MVP GOALIE award went to Liam Higgins of the Little River Sales Grinders.

"Congrats to all the teams," Stevens said. "See you next year at the cup."
