Rookie teams reach semifinals of Nanaimo tourney

Blue Jays, Mariners both play well at baseball tournament in Nanaimo

The Comox Valley Baseball Association sponsored two of the Valley’s Rookie teams to play in a tournament in Nanaimo.

The  Comox Valley Blue Jays were led to the semifinals by coaches Jeff Collins, Mat Baggaley and Jamie Tobacca. Coaches Robb Webb, Jerry Mundi, Tyler Eldstrom and Aaron Harmon also led their team Comox Valley Mariners to the semis.

Derek Smith and Haakon Guttormson represented the teams in a Home Run Derby in the tournament. Through the rain and sun, the kids gave it their all and played their hardest.

“Congratulations to the Comox Valley Blue Jays and Comox Valley Mariners on a great weekend of ball,” a spokesperson said.
