Sailing club race team has great year

The Comox Bay Sailing Club Race Team added to their 2012 season results by taking first and third in the Fall Dinghies Championships hosted by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club this past weekend.

Sailors Theo Truax and Chris Volkers of Highland Secondary placed first followed closely by Alex Brown also of Highland and his partner Oliver Barry from Mark Isfeld finishing in third; sailing double-handed club 420’s.  Richard Barry sailed in the Masters Laser Class (an Olympic sailboat) and Aidan Collins sailed in the Laser radial, rounding out the Comox Bay representation.

The 2012 Canadian Yachting Association’s Sail West & U17 Championships were also recently held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club.  Oliver Barry and Alex Brown placed third overall and first in the U17 420 division, with Christopher Volkers and his Cadet crew taking second place.

Theo Truax and Carlos Schaub (crewing from Powell River) were fourth overall and received second place for the U17 division.  Callam Barry placed fourth in the Optimist blue fleet and his father Richard placed 11th overall in the Masters Laser class.

Across the country at the National Sea Cadet Regatta in Kingston, Ont., Chris Volkers finished in second place racing International 420s.

The Comox Bay Sailing Club Race Team is a program that provides opportunities for sailors of all ages both recreational and competitive. It is a family first sailing experience where friendly to elite competition is welcomed.
