Rob Kelly cracked the 40-minute barrier to place second in his category. Derek Brenchley won his age group in 40:47. Just behind was Danny Keyes, placing fourth in his category. Gord Harris cracked 45 minutes to take fourth in his category. Coming in just under 50 minutes was Steve Blacklock, who took 10th in his age group. Also breaking 50 minutes was Roslyn Smith, who once again won her F70-74 age group and set a course record. Smith’s Pioneer 8k race result from two weeks earlier has been confirmed as a Canadian master’s age group record.

Sam Knowles broke 60 minutes to earn a 10th-place finish, and Tom Munro placed eighth in his category.

Brailyn and Deborah Webster ran together, with Brailyn winning her age group. Hudson Webster placed fifth in his category.

The next local events are the 5k Fun Run and the Comox Valley RV Half Marathon, March 23 and 24 respectively. The Fun Run takes place at the end of the 10 week 5km Running Clinic sponsored by CVRR. The Half Marathon is the largest running event in the area. Running, volunteering or spectating are all great ways to get involved.
