Taylor Green breaks up no-hitter

Snaps 1-for-22 slump with double to foil Arroyo's strong performance

Bronson Arroyo was working on a no-hitter. Taylor Green said "No way."

In MLB action Tuesday night at Cincinnati, Red's pitcher Arroyo held the Milwaukee Brewers hitless through seven and two-thirds innings. With one out in the eighth he walked catcher George Kottaras.

Then second baseman Green strode to the plate and ripped 1-2 curveball down the right-field foul line that landed just fair to end Arroyo's no-hit bid. Green ended up at second.

Corey Hart then delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double and scored the tying run two batters later on Norichika Aoki's single. That made it 3-3, but the rally went for nought as the Reds homered in the bottom of the eighth to win 4-3.

Green was in the on-deck circle in the ninth when Reds' closer Aroldis Chapman did a double somersault off the mound to celebrate a game-ending strikeout.

Along with a front row seat for one of the most bizarre celebrations in baseball history, Green finished 1-for-3 on the night, with his two-bagger snapping a 1-for-22 slump.

Through 37 games with the Brew Crew this year, Green is hitting .208 with seven doubles, two homers and 10 RBI. The Comox Valley minor baseball stalwart has an OBP of .276 and SLG of .377.
