‘Safety first’ has been the highest priority for the Royal LePage Snow to Surf for the 36 years of the unique multi-sport relay.

Volunteer training, and the presence of safety organizations such as Ground Search and Rescue, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary has given the event an enviable record.

Careful grooming of the 70-plus kilometre relay route comes under scrutiny this time each year with an eye to participant well-being.

This fall, race organizers will move to shift the lower portion of the running leg from the Strathcona Parkway to a complete off-road trail.

Race boss Brian Shaw, along with some experienced help, is flagging a new route through TimberWest holdings. He requires some eager hands to clear brush and move rocks before the snow falls. Trail-building expertise would be invaluable.

“Your efforts will not go unrewarded for helping to make Year 36 the greatest running of the Royal LePage Snow to Surf,” Shaw said.
