The junior girls basketball teams at Vanier and Isfeld finished second and third, respectively, at an eight-team tournament, contested Friday and Saturday at Vanier Secondary.

The host Towhees lost 49-19 in Saturday’s final to Belmont Secondary of Lanford. The team advanced to the final with a heart-stopping, double overtime win over Stelly’s Secondary of Saanich.

The Isfeld Ice — playing very entertaining basketball — beat Stelly’s 34-30 in the third=place match.

Other teams competing were NDSS, Brooks Secondary of Powell River, Oak Bay and Burnaby South.

Next up for the Vanier junior girls is a Tuesday home game against Timberline. The Grade 9 girls play at Highland Secondary on Thursday.
