Vanier swimmer makes two B.C. finals

Abby McDowell, a Grade 10 student at Vanier Secondary in Courtenay, made the finals in two events at the B.C. high school swim provincials on the weekend in Richmond.

Abby McDowell placed seventh in the 50-metre freestyle and eighth in the 100m free at the B.C. high school swim provincials.

Abby McDowell, a Grade 10 student at Vanier Secondary in Courtenay, made the finals in two events at the B.C. high school swim provincials on the weekend in Richmond.

The 15-year-old placed seventh in the 50-metre freestyle and eighth in the 100m free. She also competed in the 100m individual medley.

She qualified for the events at the zone meet Oct. 21 at Commonwealth Pool in Victoria.

McDowell is a member of the Comox Valley Blue Devils summer swim club. She had an outstanding summer season, qualifying for provincials with best times in all of her events, breaking two club records in the process. She also earned a spot on the regional relay team for Vancouver Island. Her season was capped with a provincial bronze medal in the relay.
