Vinge fastest from Comox Valley at Prairie Inn 8k

A group of dedicated Comox Valley Road Runners (CVRR) kicked off the racing season with the Prairie Inn 8k, Jan. 13 in Victoria. This was the 40th annual running of the race, and as always, it drew a competitive field.

A group of dedicated Comox Valley Road Runners (CVRR) kicked off the racing season with the Prairie Inn 8k, Jan. 13 in Victoria. This was the 40th annual running of the race, and as always, it drew a competitive field.

Derek Vinge was the fastest local man, finishing in 27:04 and placing 18th overall. He also earned third in his category. Vinge was followed by Keith Wakelin, who placed second in his category in a time of 32:01. In addition to this fantastic result for Wakelin, he was also inducted into the 1,000 Mile Club for miles raced in the Island Race Series.

Aislinn Deenihan was the fastest local woman, running a time of 33:54 and earning fifth in her age group. Deenihan was followed by Marion Bryan in 36:07, who was sixth in her category. Roslyn Smith ran a 37:04 to win the 70-74-year age group, and set a new age group record. And Brailyn Webster ran with mother Deborah to place second in her category.

There were many other fantastic results from CVRR racers. Some notable finishes include: Brandon Reeder, fourth in 32:43; Derek Brenchley, fourth in 32:59, Brian Stewart, fifth in 33:40; Hudson Webster, fifth in 37:55; Sam Knowles ninth; Brailyn Webster second; and and Tom Munro ninth.
