Gracie Walls of Vanier Secondary has been selected to compete at the 2018 BC Summer Games in volleyball. She is the only Comox Valley athlete selected to represent Vancouver Island on this high performance team.
Walls plays middle blocker for Vanier, and for the Campbell River Crush club volleyball team. The latter won gold at the Island Championships at Vancouver Island University in April.
Team BC 15U is a regional program where athletes try out for an elite team in their region to train and travel to the BC Summer Games. Walls and her teammates have been training extensively in the weeks leading up to the July 19 -22 event in the Cowichan Valley.
The BC Summer Games has been the starting point for many athletes who have gone on to higher levels of sport such as the Canada Games, and Olympic and Paralympic Games. Team BC’s high performance volleyball is the pathway for young athletes who aspire to reach the elite level and who dream to one day represent Canada on the national men’s or
women’s volleyball team.
