THE COMOX VALLEY Youth Triathlon Clinic is looking for more participants for next week's session.

The Comox Valley Youth Triathlon Clinic kicked off its first practice on Tuesday night April 9 but there are still six weeks left to train and prepare for the annual Shoreline Orthodontics Tri-K, to be held May 26 this year.

“We can take up to 16 youth ages 10-17, and we are looking for more teens to sign up for the clinic this year,” says coach Lynda Magor. The clinic’s focus is on those kids and teens who would like to complete the event on their own. Distances for kids aged 10-11 and 12-17 are different, but geared towards their age and ability.

The 10-11 year olds swim 150m (six lengths), bike 10km and run 2km.  The 12 years and up group swim 300m (12 lengths), bike 10km and run 3km in that order.

With all of the speedy transition tips, coaches Magor Audrey Erlandson give them, along with some good solid training for their distance, athletes in the clinic will be among the top finishers, hands down!

There is also a school challenge where a trophy is handed out to the school with the greatest number of participants. Some local schools have already kicked off their training and hope to claim the trophy.

Register now for the remaining six weeks of training and take the challenge to finish your first triathlon. Contact  Magor (250-941-3579 or e-mail magors@shawa.ca) to register for next Tuesday’s session from 4-6 p.m. at the Aquatic Centre. Participants will need to have a bike and helmet that fits for next week’s practice.
