Music from the spheres is front and centre at the annual Mother’s Day Concert, Sunday, May 12, 2 p.m. at the Florence Filberg Centre, Courtenay.
Sponsored by the Evergreen Club, the 60-piece wind ensemble under the direction of Denise Marquette will perform a wide range of material from classical to pop, movies to musicals.
Space and Beyond features the music of Star Wars, Star Trek and Holst’s The Planets. Pop tunes from the 1960s and ’70s compose the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy; Rainbows portrays a colourful medley of tunes by Peggy Lee, Petula Clarke and Judy Garland.
James Bond makes a brief appearance while attempting to withstand a Skyfall, the Wicked Witch of the West takes off while Defying Gravity and Dr. Who travels through space and time in a telephone booth.
