One of the many Vancouver Island MusicFest traditions is the unveiling of the official poster.

A local artist always creates the poster, and Adrienne Tomlin created this year’s winning design.

“30 years is an incredible milestone to celebrate! When Adrienne Tomlin approached the MusicFest team with her idea for the 2024 festival poster image we all said ‘Yes!’” VIMF marketing manager Sue Wood said in a press release.

This is not Tomlin’s first MusicFest poster creation.

She also designed the 2017 “Octopus Hoarding Instruments” poster image and the 2019 “Watery Piano” poster image.

“I thought, what better way than to paint a picture of what a dedicated MusicFester’s campsite might look like?” said Tomlin. She found her inspiration in a deep dive into the MusicFest archives. With some additional the help from members of the MusicFest community, Tomlin was able to incorporate elements of every previous VI MusicFest poster.

“I love that Vancouver Island MusicFest allows the opportunity for artists to showcase their art that otherwise might not have an avenue to do so. They are so open-minded, patient and fun to be around. I am so grateful to be included in this process and for their ongoing support,” said Tomlin.

She and her husband are very community-minded individuals and their company Strathcona Recycling & Disposal (SR&D) has been a long-time supporter & sponsor of VI MusicFest. Their three sons also volunteer with MusicFest working on the construction crew and fencing crew. In the past few years, these young men have even started their own sub-crew for the youth volunteers under the guidance of the production co-ordinators. They call themselves the “Rat Pack” and has turned into a great opportunity for youth leadership and mentoring.

Vancouver Island MusicFest runs July 12 – 14 in the Comox Valley. For tickets and information go to www.islandmusicfest.com
