Monica Parkin is known for a lot of things in the Comox Valley.

Professionally, she is a licensed mortgage broker and director of community engagement for Invis Pacific View Mortgages in Comox.

From the community standpoint, she’s involved in everything from Robotics tournaments to hockey games. She is also involved in numerous community service and networking groups.

And now, she is a published author.

Monica Parkin’s new book, Overcoming Awkward, an Introvert’s Guide to Networking, Marketing and Sales, is set for release on Nov. 12 (Amazon/Barnes and Noble and Goodreads). The book is written to free introverts from the crippling social constraints that come with launching and growing their businesses and careers.

“How did a shy, socially awkward introvert like me turn into a master relationship builder? And are the lessons I learned available to everyone else? Even you? Well, the answer is that you can evolve,” said Parkin. “I was making myself crazy with all the social cues I did not understand and wondered why this comes so naturally to some people but was so impossibly hard for me. Today, I love the opportunity to go to events, meet people, hear people’s stories, and build relationships. I can have the best of both worlds now and so can you.”

Parkin is a licensed mortgage broker and successful serial entrepreneur. She is an award-winning international speaker and the host of the “Juggling without Balls” podcast. She is also a self-professed introvert and crazy goat lady who lives on a small farm with an assortment of furry creatures. She loves to hear feedback from readers and looks forward to opportunities to speak on topics that empower others to feel more connected, confident and successful.

“Treat every client like they are worth your time, your attention, and your follow-up,” she said. “Trust that they are worth it no matter how things look at first glance and no matter if you’re selling them a pencil or selling them an entire office suite. They will feel it if you are prejudging them. They will sense it and they will react to it… Speaking like a winner leads to thinking like a winner. Thinking like a winner leads to acting like a winner, which leads to taking actions that leads to winning.”
