In order to prioritize the safety of its staff, the Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) board is taking essential measures to meet required training standards by adjusting the opening hours at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre (CVWMC) four times in the year 2024.

The training requirements mandated by WorkSafeBC and internal safety standards are receiving top priority for CSWM employees. This modification in operating hours aims to enhance staff readiness for emergencies such as natural disasters and climate change events, ensuring strict compliance with safety regulations.

During the year 2024, the operational hours at the CVWMC will be adjusted to 12:00 – 5:30 pm on the following days:

Wednesday, Jan. 31

Wednesday, May 15

Wednesday, July 17

Wednesday, Oct. 16

Normal operating hours of 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. will remain in effect on all other days.

“This change is pivotal for ensuring safety compliance, operational efficiency, and emergency preparedness at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre,” said CSWM board co-chair Will Cole-Hamilton. “The schedule has been strategically planned to minimize impact on partner municipalities and commercial customers, aligning with lower periods of facility traffic.”

Commercial customers and affected municipalities have already been informed about these changes. For further details on facility hours, please visit www.cswm.ca/hours.
