Full house for Courtenay presentation by ‘Skid Row CEO’

Joe Roberts spent the day in the community, reaching out to others

Mindset Wealth, a division of iA Private Wealth, had the absolute pleasure of hosting Mr. Joe Roberts aka “The Skid Row CEO” Dec. 2 to a full audience at Crown Isle Resort.

Joe Roberts spoke to the audience about the importance of potential: “Whether you’re setting big goals for 2022 or discussing how to better address some of the painful social challenges every community is facing. Human connection and the sharing of stories is vital to deepening our understanding.”

A seven-minute conversation with a stranger changed the trajectory of his life and inspired his Push For Change Foundation.

“The driving reason why Mindset Wealth wanted to get Joe out was that, over the past 18 months, we have come across too many people in our community that are struggling with mental health challenges, as well as the growing homelessness problem in our part of the world,” said Mindset Wealth senior investment advisor Robert Mulroney, in a press release. “Joe’s remarkable story of struggle, hope, renewal and mindset was very well-received, given the times we live in today.”

Roberts also attended both Highland and Isfeld schools during assembly to speak to the young people.

“There is a sacred feeling I get when I hold a microphone in front of an audience; it’s not just nerves, it’s a feeling of responsibility that someone in this group really needs to hear a message today,” said Roberts. “That feeling is even more intense when it’s a school. It was also an awesome way to celebrate my birthday!”

The students at Isfeld ended the assembly with a rousing version of Happy Birthday to Roberts. A group of students mobbed him as they filed out of the gym wanting their moment to connect. After listening to the presentation, an Interact student chatted with Roberts and found out about The Promise Project in which youth help youth at risk in their own communities. Inspired, the Interact Club is working on a shoebox project to help give personal hygiene products and comfort to people in need. The grant will support The Foundry opening this spring.

“Joe, being a youth advocate, was extremely proud to share and inspire his message of hope with as many people as we could get to: within a 12 hour whirlwind tour, we reached out to over 500 clients, community leaders, educators and students,” said Mulroney. “The long-lasting effects of his one-day visit will continue to echo and reverberate through our town.”

Joe Roberts now joins a list of distinguished speakers that Mindset Wealth has brought to the Comox Valley, along with Mr. Robb Nash (twice): the latter having been awarded The Order of Canada, and the former having been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal of Canada.
