This September marks the 10th year of operation for Glacier Probus, a popular social club for retired and semi-retired people.

Of the four Probus clubs in Comox Valley, Glacier is the youngest, but made an impression in the community right away.

“Glacier was the first Probus club to have a comprehensive website which clearly showed what Glacier Probus had to offer, and rapidly became the most referred to on Google,” said past president Tony Nichol.

Many current members pointed to the wide range of activities as another reason for Glacier’s success.

Katie Hubbersty commented on “the really broad variety of regular activities to appeal to many interests and many levels of physical activity. Good examples are two levels of cycling groups and the huge array of walking groups ranging from strollers to hikers.”

How will Glacier Probus celebrate its birthday? Alan Brown, a member of the committee overseeing special celebrations, was unwilling to reveal any “spoilers”, but admitted “there will be several special events to mark the occasion over the next year. And as with any good celebration, food and music will probably be involved.”
