For the past 12 years, a young gentleman in the Comox Valley has created his own Bear Necessities Project to support young children whose families are experiencing stress or financial difficulties.
The donations include large teddy bears and backpacks filled with food items, toys, books, and warm clothing.
He does this on his own, and pays for these gifts from his own resources.
It all started with the anonymous donor interaction with a troubled and lonely young boy who did not have a stable and loving family to care for him, and was shunted from foster homes and youth institutions. Sadly, the young boy passed away with no loving family. This experience was the catalyst for the Bear Necessities Project in the Comox Valley.
To date, 149 large bears and filled backpacks have been donated. These are distributed to community organizations who advise the Comox Valley Monarch Lions Club of the need and are delivered to these organizations by volunteers from the Lions. The community organizations then deliver the items directly to the families.
The members of the Comox Valley Monarch Lions Club are proud to play a small role in this important community project of love and caring, and respect the wishes of this kind and generous young man to remain anonymous.
