Comox Valley businesses asking the community to nominate local families in need of help this Christmas

Building Christmas Dreams campaign now in its fourth year

A couple of Comox Valley businesses are looking to make the holiday season a bit brighter for some families this year with their Building Christmas Dreams campaign.

For the fourth year in a row, Cameron Contracting Ltd. and Hyland Precast Inc. are asking the community to nominate local families or individuals in need. They’re also putting a call out to other businesses and individuals who are interested in getting involved by providing donations.

Last year, the team of businesses banded together to help more than 50 families in the Comox Valley. Many of these families received gifts and groceries. Other donations came in the form of providing food and accommodation for two families with children who spent Christmas in the hospital, buying new brakes for one family’s car, sending one deserving mother for a trip to the spa, and allowing the opportunity for a single mother to take her daughter for a visit to Science World.

“Our mission with Building Christmas Dreams is to give back to our community. We joined forces with Hyland Precast four years ago and have been able to build on the campaign ever since,” said Kristy Shambrook, controller for Cameron Contracting Ltd. “We are lucky to have many individuals and local businesses helping us along the way and we are very excited for the opportunity to help others during the holiday season.”

This year a new website was built with the goal of helping more families by attracting additional nominations and collecting donations online. Building Christmas Dreams is live from now until Dec. 15. To nominate a local family or make a donation, visit the new website:
