On Friday, June 2, at 12:30 p.m. the Comox Valley Child Development Association (CVCDA) will be hosting a community mural unveiling event.

Join CVCDA staff and board members as they unveil a new, large format (10’x20′), mosaic mural outside of their downtown Courtenay offices at 237 Third Street. The unveiling ceremony will be open to the public along with a number of invited special guests.

Following the unveiling, the CVCDA will host a celebration to include food, live music, kids’ activities and more. A barbecue lunch will be available for purchase provided by the Rotary Club of the Comox Valley. As seen at the annual CVCDA Children’s Telethon, the Kenny Shaw & Valorie Duo will be performing live throughout the event. Kids stopping in can enjoy activities including a bouncy house, face painting by Amy Louise and the Outdoor Play Space.

The CVCDA will be receiving the donated Canada Connects Spring Mural Mosaic through a collaboration with Mural Mosaic’s Global Roots Project. The Mural celebrates the collaboration of hundreds of individual artists throughout Canada and several parts of the world. Each artist’s painting is their own interpretation and insight into the project’s theme of connection. The overall mural is a representation of how these hundreds of voices are connected, and how when we come together, we can create harmony in one shared experience.

The mural is made up of 2,000 individually painted tiles. Many of them were painted by members of the Comox Valley community, including CVCDA board and team members, program participants and their families along with community supporters including a group from the Rotary Club of the Comox Valley.

Many local businesses have come together with their support in preparing the site and assisting with the mural installation, including Edgett Excavating contributing towards the landscaping needs and Dove Creek Painting providing a fresh coat to the backdrop. The many improvements to our building’s exterior will also be showcased as part of the unveiling ceremony.

In addition to the celebratory activities, the CVCDA is putting on a fundraising (court) yard sale from 1-4 p.m. with all proceeds going to the CVCDA’s JumpStart Preschool, The Autism Program and the Outdoor Play Space. Items for sale will be a mix of children’s items including toys, various pieces of furniture, small household and other miscellaneous items.
