The Comox Valley Community Foundation celebrated National Philanthropy Day Nov. 15 in the most literal of ways - by distributing funds.

More than $180,000 was doled out to 17 agencies within the Comox Valley at the event, held at the Courtenay & District Museum.

The CVCF also took the opportunity to update the public on the Aitken fund.

“ We just received our final $100,000 from the Catherine Mary Aitken & Elizabeth Cherry Aitken Fund established with us in 2015, now worth $5.8 million benefitting four agencies,” said CVCF executive director Jody Macdonald, in a statement.

The Catherine Mary Aitken & Elizabeth Cherry Aitken Fund benefits the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation (25 per cent); Comox Valley Hospice Society (25 per cent); The North Island College students (25 per cent, to go towards scholarships); CVCF’s Community Fund for community enrichment grants (20 per cent); and CVCF operations (five per cent).
