Attached is a photo of 19-year-old Eleanore Smith of Courtenay, the 2018 winner of the VGMS Voice competition. Pictured with Eleanore are her teacher, Carrie Lemke and adjudicator, Anne Grimm of Victoria. The Virginia Graczak Music Scholarship, Piano & Voice along with the Margaret Gracza Fine Art Award at North Island College is open to all students of SD 71 and 72. The scholarship was founded in 2001 and has raised over $110,000. Eleanore is holding a print by Margaret Gracza, stepmother of Susie Moscovich, the founder of the scholarships. All VGMS participants and adjudicators are awarded a print, with first place receiving $1,000.

Courtenay Elementary School P.A.C. thanks the Rotary Club of Comox for donating $2,000 to the Summer Reading Book Launch. Each child will receive a new book to help prevent the summer reading skills slide. The photo includes: P.A.C. treasurer Aiko Smith, P.A.C. chair Cynthia Sklarchuk, president of The Rotary Club of Comox Joanne Coyle, and past P.A.C. chair Kindle Parsons.
