Man charged with break and enter
On March 20, 2019 a male was arrested after being found unlawfully inside a dwelling house on the 2100-block of Morello Place in Courtenay. Shortly after the male was released from police custody, he returned to the same residence and broke in. Fortunately, investigators from the Comox Valley Municipal Drug Section were in the area and saw the male enter the residence. Graham Earle was charged with break and enter, sentenced to 30 days in jail and one year of probation. He remains in custody. (Ref. 2019-3887) Excessive Speeders

Frontline members of the Comox Valley RCMP have been busy keeping our roads safe. Speeding is considered to be excessive when it is more than 40km/hr above the posted speed limit. The fine for excessive speeding starts at $368.00, comes with three penalty points and a seven-day vehicle impound. The following excessive speeds were captured in the Comox Valley this month:
• Comox Valley Parkway – 133km/hr in posted 80km/hr zone
• Inland Island Highway – 160km/hr in posted 110km/hr zone
• Comox Valley Parkway – 131km/hr, street racing in posted 80km/hr zone
• Comox Valley Parkway – 149km/hr, street racing in posted 80km/hr zone

Theft from vehicle leads to credit card fraud
On March 19, someone entered an unlocked vehicle on Noel Avenue in Comox. The suspect(s) stole a credit card from the vehicle, which was subsequently used at three different businesses in the Comox Valley. Investigators are busy gathering surveillance footage from the businesses to identify the suspect(s). (Ref. 2019-3808)
April is Auto Crime Enforcement Month and this year the theme “Check Your Doors Before They Do” encourages drivers to protect themselves, and their vehicles from becoming victims of crimes of opportunity.
Suspicious activity leads to impaired driving and drug trafficking investigations
On March 13, the Comox Valley RCMP received a report of a suspicious vehicle on the 700-block of Ryan Road in Courtenay. Frontline members went to the area and located the vehicle with two occupants inside. The investigator believed the driver was intoxicated by drugs and initiated an impaired driving investigation. Additionally, as that investigation was taking place, evidence of possible drug trafficking was located inside the vehicle. The driver was released from police custody with an upcoming court date. This incident highlights the importance of calling police to report suspicious activity as it is happening. Thanks to this caller, an apparent impaired driver was stopped from going onto our roads and what appears to be drug trafficking was disrupted. (Ref. 2019-3516)
