Cumberland hosting Faire

The Village of Cumberland will be buzzing during the seventh annual celebration of its Heritage Faire on Feb. 19.

The Village of Cumberland will be buzzing during the seventh annual celebration of its Heritage Faire on Feb. 19.

The event will be held in the Cumberland Recreation Centre on Dunsmuir Avenue from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., and will feature a huge variety of displays created by individuals and organizations spotlighting the rich history of the community, which in its early days was the industrial centre of the Comox Valley.

Cumberland is one of the few communities to celebrate the National Heritage Week.

Begun seven years ago as a way of raising awareness and installing pride in the village and Comox Valley, the Heritage Faire provides a showcase of crafts, artifacts and items from past and present for all to peruse, interact with and enjoy.

Comox Valley talent from fiddlers, dancers, puppeteers and more will entertain all ages throughout the day. As well, the Cumberland United Church will be open to the public as will the Cumberland Museum, so those interested can enjoy the music of  the church’s heritage organ and investigate the museum’s rich collection.

Admission to the Faire is by donation.
