Kenny Shaw was supposed to be in Regina over the weekend, to be presented with the Sovereign’s Medal For Volunteers, but Mother Nature cancelled his plans.

When the fog rolled into the Comox Valley on Friday, all flights out of the Comox Valley Airport were cancelled, including Shaw’s flight out of YQQ.

While his meeting with her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, the Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada has been postponed, the party in Courtenay to celebrate the award will go as planned.

To show appreciation for this community-minded gentleman, a dinner and dance is taking place at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 160 in Comox (1825 Comox Ave.) on Friday October 26. Tickets are $25 for this event.

Included in the program is guest speaker, Most Reverend Gary Michael Gordon, who will stress the value of volunteers.

Shaw has requested that 75 per cent of the proceeds from this event go to the Comox Valley Child Development Association.
