Look up, way up, and you’ll see skydivers… if you are awake early enough.

The Canadian Forces School of Search and Rescue (CFSSAR) will conduct parachute training for CFSSAR students and recertification training for search and rescue (SAR) technicians at 19 Wing Comox from April 29 – May 10.

Comox residents may hear the Skyvan, a twin-engine aircraft, flying overhead and see parachutists training from approximately 6-9 a.m. daily. Due to the busy operational and training flying schedules at 19 Wing in April, these are the only hours available for CFSSAR to conduct this training; they regret any disruption the aircraft noise may cause.

This training and recertification is essential to ensure the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) are able to respond to the needs of Canadians. Search and rescue technicians are highly trained specialists who provide advanced pre-hospital medical care and rescue for aviators, mariners and others in distress in remote or hard-to-reach areas.

For the month of April, residents of the Comox Valley are reminded that increased aircraft noise from the CFSSAR, Snowbirds, and CF-18 Demo team training can be expected.

Please note that the flight path of the aircraft is determined by the prevailing winds to ensure the safety of the participants, and adverse weather conditions may cause delays in the completion of this essential training
