Fairs connect students and employers

North Island College will connect students and employers during career fairs in the Comox Valley and Campbell River next month. The college’s Employment Resource Centre is hosting two career fairs to bring together local employers and NIC students seeking employment. On March 18 in the Comox Valley and March 25 in Campbell River, employers representing local organizations and industries will have the opportunity to meet, mingle and even interview NIC students.Treena Nadon, NIC’s employment service advisor, explains that this event will afford local employers the opportunity to speak with NIC students first, before they consider other options.“Employers who attend the career fair will have an inside track to our current talent,” she stated.  “Between the two campuses, NIC is home to almost 3,000 students enrolled in credit programs, many of whom are about ready to enter the workforce.” Nadon is anticipating a very good turnout from students and alumni, as students are now turning their attention to their job search and to what career opportunities are available to them.“Most are looking to remain in the area, which is a win-win-win for local employers, our students and our communities in general," she noted. "Employing these students locally builds and strengthens our communities for the future.”The Comox Valley Career Fair will be located in the new Trades Training Centre, and the Campbell River Career Fair will be located in the cafeteria. The career fairs will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at each location. There will be space for 20 employers to participate, and all will have access to a private room for conducting on-the-spot interviews.Employers need to be registered to participate by March 1 and will be confirmed on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information or to reserve a booth at one of the career fairs, contact Treena Nadon at treena.nadon@nic.bc.ca.— North Island College
