Comox air and sea cadets visited Vimy Ridge for the 100th anniversary of that battle. In 2019 they are planning to visit Normandy for the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Photo supplied.

Dust off your dancing shoes for A Night to Remember on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Phil and Jennie Gaglardi Academy, and help local cadets in the process.

Step back into the swing of big band sounds, played by the Gaglardi jazz band. Listen to the Gaglardi senior choir singing the Andrew Sisters’ Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy while sipping Shirley Temples from the Toonie Mocktail bar.

Local Sea and Air Cadets are hosting this family evening to raise funds to follow in the footsteps of the soldiers who fought on D-Day on the 75th anniversary next June 6 in Normandy, France.

“They will see the battle unfold before them on the shores of Juno Beach,” said Captain Christel Davidsen, officer in charge of the trip. “They’ll visit the graves of the thousands of young people who died for their freedom.”

The Ryan Castle Band will also provide their unique combo of originals and 60s/70s funk/soul/R&B to round out the evening.

“We need the current generation to carry the torch of remembrance for our great country, and nothing speaks more deeply than standing in the very place where it all occurred,” said Davidsen.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students aged 12 to 18. To order tickets, call 250-870-7446.
