Grade 5 student wins district spelling bee with the word ‘metaphor’

Students from 11 different schools participated in the spelling bee

SD71 grade 4 to 7 students proved their spelling prowess at the district spelling bee at Brooklyn Elementary Tuesday afternoon.

Royston Elementary grade 5 student, Piper Eastman, came out on top, spelling the word ‘metaphor’ for a first-place finish.

Ecole Puntledge Park grade 7 students, Kiera Cummings and Miriam Heinrich came second and third.

A total of 33 students from 11 different schools advanced to this district competition.
