Comox Valley’s Marine Search and Rescue unit looking for new recruits

The Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCM SAR) is looking for volunteers interested in helping saves lives on the water.

RCM SAR Station 60 is looking for individuals with boating experience who are physically and mentally fit. It needs to select 12 new volunteers for 2019-2020 training programs, which include boating safety, marine radio, seamanship, boat handling, navigation, first aid, and marine search and rescue techniques.

Volunteers need to be on call at least five days a month. They also need to attend certification courses, and a monthly station meeting, among other commitments.

Interested volunteers are encouraged to attend an information session and open house from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17 at the RCM SAR station at the Comox Marina.
