COVID-19 exposures at Comox Valley schools continue to be documented on the BC School COVID tracker website, and the latest data includes an exposure event at a Christmas bake and craft sale at Huband Elementary, on Dec. 4.
The exposure was dated Dec. 12 and in the ‘extra info’ column, the following notice is written: “This was during a school Pac event in the school gym. (Bake sale and craft fair, which is why the exposure is on Saturday). Confirmation email on file.”
The Record has reached out to Island Health for more information on this exposure event, as the BC School Tracker website is an anecdotal data collection site.
The Dec. 12 notification was among five notifications in the past week for exposure events in Huband Park. The five notifications identify exposure dates as Nov. 30-Dec. 4.
Lake Trail Community School families were also notified over the weekend of a couple of recent exposure events at their school. Island Health sent out a notification on Monday, Dec. 13, for an exposure event Dec. 2 and 3.
That notification came on the heels of a Dec. 10 email to parents, advising of a separate exposure event, Nov. 29, Dec. 2 and Dec. 3.
Two other Courtenay schools received exposure notifications in the past seven days. Valley View Elementary (Dec. 8 notification) had an exposure event carrying over the course of three days, from Dec. 1-3.
And NIDES Navigate families received notification (Dec. 8) of an exposure event Dec. 1-2.
In Comox, Ecole Au-coeur-de-l’île had its 10th exposure notice in the month of December (and 15th overall) on Dec. 8 - this one for an exposure covering five instructional days, Nov. 29-Dec. 3.
École Robb Road families also received notification last week (Dec. 9) for an exposure event Nov. 26.
Cumberland Community School families received their second notice in five days on Dec. 12, this one for an exposure Dec. 7 - the same day an email was sent out to advise families of an exposure on Dec. 2.
Denman Island Community School received its first exposure event notification of the 2021-2022 school year on Dec. 9, for an event Dec. 1 and 2.
The recent spike in COVID cases in the Comox Valley prompted a statement from Dr. Charmaine Enns, the region’s medical health officer, about the importance of vaccinations.
There have been a total of 46 documents exposure events in Comox Valley schools so far in December, which accounts for nearly 10 per cent of all the documented school cases (486) in the entire province this month.
