Carnival del Mundo, a marionette performance, is coming May 14 to the Stan Hagen Theatre at North Island College.
You can lose yourself in a wild, wondrous exploration of music, dance and special effects by one of America's leading puppet troupes — Dan Butterworth Marionettes.
Butterworth, who has performed with his hand-carved marionettes for the past 20 years, will lead a five-day marionette-making workshop at Nature’s Way Farm.
The course will run May 9 to 14 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It costs $750 per student. This price includes lunches, instruction, materials and supplies, and a performance. At the end of the week, participants will have created their own wooden classical marionette and assisted Butterworth in staging a public performance behind the scenes.
Tickets for the May 14 performance will be on sale in April at Whale’s Tale Toys and South Hollow Gallery/Leapenhi Paper Design in Courtenay. Watch for more details.
Anyone interested in the marionette workshop is asked to e-mail Marla Limousin at mlimousin@natureswayfarm.ca.
