I seek your support in being elected as trustee to the Union Bay Improvement District. I’ve spent my working career in the banking and mortgage lending field. I hope to bring fiscal responsibility to our community.
I believe our future lies in becoming a service area of the Comox Valley Regional District. Other communities such as Royston and Sandwick have done so with favorable results.
If Union Bay were to become a service area of the CVRD, our community would have access to lower cost funding options that are not available to an improvement district.
We have many pensioners in our area and the availability to less expensive borrowing options will save landowners a tremendous amount of money. CVRD can also apply for infrastructure grants that are not available to an improvement district. The CVRD recently received a $62.8 million grant to build their new treatment plant, while Union Bay residents have to fund their plant in its entirety!
The Mattison Water Report (2017), a comprehensive study of the water issues of Union Bay, makes a very strong recommendation for the UBID Board of Trustees to instruct the CVRD to do a cost benefit study of becoming a service area.
I believe UBID should consider this recommendation and not ignore the possibility of large tax savings to our community.
A change in leadership is needed in Union Bay, and I believe my background in finance makes me the right person for the job.
