Special transit service for Empire Days

To help Comox Valley celebrate Empire Days, a special transit service will operate between downtown Courtenay and downtown Cumberland on parade day.

The Special 2 Cumberland will run from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, May 23. The service also features a Park & Ride at Driftwood Mall.

Transit service is not usually provided on statutory holidays in the Comox Valley. This special service is courtesy of the Comox Valley Regional District, and is offered free of charge.

"Empire Days are a great way for families in the Comox Valley to spend time together and I commend BC Transit for stepping up to provide this valuable service," Comox Valley MLA Don McRae said.

"Transportation is one of the eight key areas of focus for the Comox Valley sustainability strategy," said Edwin Grieve, chair of the Comox Valley Regional District's board of directors. "And transit is a key part of transportation sustainability.

"We're pleased to be a partner in the initiative to encourage people to choose an alternative to their car to get right to the heart of the action during Cumberland's Empire Days."

"In partnership with the Comox Valley Regional District, we are pleased to offer this complimentary service to the Empire Day parade," said Manuel Achadinha, president and CEO of BC Transit. "It's another way we are continuing to support vibrant, sustainable communities."
