Feb. 27 is Pink Shirt Day and in the spirit of the day, Queneesh Elementary students hit the streets of downtown Courtenay to spread compassion to unsuspecting passers-by.
Grade 4 and 5 students partnered with their kindergarten and grade 1 buddies to hand out hand made compassion tokens - each in the shape of a pink shirt and containing a letter of what compassion and kindness mean to them.
Jaylin, a grade 5 student, loved the feeling of bringing happiness to people.
“Someone said that they were going to put the picture up on their fridge,” she said. “Maybe [some people] are having a bad day and this brought them happiness.”
Students have been learning about compassion and bullying in school and approximately 40 students participated in the field trip to put it into practice.
