The Comox Valley’s Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) team has a new Outreach Services Team (IHOST), which provides care and support to people living outside, experiencing mental health and substance use issues.

The team comprises nurses, an occupational therapist, support workers, peers, and physicians who travel to where people are in our community, to deliver care. This mobile care team helps ensure vulnerable members of our community have access to care and better support.

With gratitude to Trail Bicycles and other Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation contributors, the team has two e-bikes to support their important work with the unhoused community. The bikes, provided earlier this year, improve access to areas that are not accessible by vehicle and are equipped with special saddlebags to carry supplies.

“E-bikes enable our outreach team to access, and more effectively care for, some of the most vulnerable people in our community,” said Chris Goble from MHSU.

The CVCF expresses its sincere gratitude to Trail Bicycles for their generosity in helping acquire the e-bikes and to the IHOST, which works tirelessly to provide much-needed care and support.
